We are glad to present a range of instrumentation across chamber music groups, and the WindSync wind quintet has established itself as a vibrant ensemble performing classical masterworks, adapting beloved music to their instrumentation, and championing new works by today’s composers.

The quintet takes pride in eliminating the “fourth wall” between musicians and audience by often performing from memory, creating an intimate connection. This personal performance style, combined with the ensemble’s three-pronged mission of artistry, education, and community-building, lends WindSync its reputation as ”a group of virtuosos who are also wonderful people, too.” (Alison Young, Classical MPR)

Versatile and vibrant, WindSync “play many idioms authoritatively, elegantly, with adroit technique, and with great fun.” (All About the Arts)

WindSync is: Garrett Hudson, Flute; Noah Kay, Oboe; Anni Hochhalter, Horn; Kara LaMoure, Bassoon; Graeme Steele Johnson, Clarinet;

The program for this afternoon includes:

  • Nadia Boulanger/arr. LaMoure: Prelude
  • W.A. Mozart/arr. Rechtman: Serenade in C minor, K. 388
  • Nadia Boulanger/arr. LaMoure: Three Pieces: Modéré, Sans vitesse et  à l’aise, Vite et nerveusement rythmé
  • Elliott Carter: Quintet (1948)
  • Viet Cuong: Flora: Century Plant, The Governess, Joshua Tree

Here they are, playing bassoonist LaMoure’s arrangement for wind quintet of Gustav Holst’s classic, “Jupiter” from “The Planets.” (The comments on the page note, with admiration, that the quintet is playing from memory.)

In demand for their ability to embed in communities, WindSync has served in residencies with arts presenters throughout the country, including the Grand Teton Music Festival, Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival and the Lied Center, among many others. Winner of the 2022 Fischoff Ann Divine Educator Award, the ensemble regularly coaches at conservatories, universities and training programs nationwide, collaborates with youth orchestras, and performs for thousands of young people each year.
