Megan Moore, Mezzo Soprano

Sleepy Hollow High School Auditorium, Sleepy Hollow, NY
November 7, 2021, 4 pm

Mezzo-soprano Megan Moore is already making a name for herself as an award-winning opera and concert singer. She has won the prestigious Young Concert Artists International Auditions and the Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition. She has awarded top honors from the Naumburg Foundation International Vocal Competition, the James Toland Vocal Arts Competition, and the Gerda Lissner Lieder & Art Song Competition. Megan just participated in Carnegie Hall’s SongStudio with Renée Fleming in partnership with her frequent collaborator Francesco Barfoed. In summer 2021, she creates the role of Ino in the world premiere of Corigliano and Adamo’s Lord of Cries at Santa Fe Opera

Acclaimed for her Rossini interpretations, “elegant vocal gymnastics,” and “rapid-fire coloratura”, Megan’s signature roles include Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and the title role in La Cenerentola. Thwarted by COVID-19 was her debut as an Apprentice Artist with Santa Fe Opera in what would have been her fourth production of Barbiere. She also looks forward to a postponed reprisal of the title role in La Cenerentola with Annapolis Opera. For her recent appearance as Doraballa in Così fan tutte at Juilliard, OperaWire praised her “undeniable sex appeal” and “strength as an actress”.

She will be accompanied by pianist Francesco Barfoed.

Francesco Barfoed (b. 1996) is a Danish pianist, born and raised in Copenhagen. A young collaborative and solo artist on the rise, he is currently pursuing his master’s degree at The Juilliard School, where he is a proud recipient of the Kovner Fellowship.

Francesco frequently collaborates with mezzo-soprano Megan Moore, and in the past year they won 1st prize in the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, 2nd prize at the Naumberg International Vocal Competition, performed at Lincoln Center’s renowned Alice Tully Hall, and performed in masterclasses for artists like Renée Fleming and Malcolm Martineau.

An avid collaborator with both singers and instrumentalists alike, Francesco was awarded the prestigious Stern Fellowship for the (cancelled) 2020 SongFest in Los Angeles. He is also a member of the Wunder trio, a prize-winning piano trio that met at the Manchester Music Festival in Vermont in 2017. Francesco is on the coaching faculty at Saluzzo Opera Academy in Italy and will teach sight-reading for pianists at Juilliard starting Fall 2021.
