Still in her teens, Harmony Zhu, our YCA Performance Award winner, has already had a remarkable career. She won the 2021 Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions and, at age 10, was named a Young Steinway Artist,

In addition, Zhu has appeared as soloist with esteemed orchestras worldwide, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Israel Philharmonic.

At an astonishingly young age, she garnered this review: “Musical prodigies can be insufferably tiresome, but pianist Harmony Zhu proved herself something much more than that – a deeply musical soul and nimble technician who happens to be 13 years old.” (Chicago Tribune)

In addition to her musical gifts, she is a serious chess player. At age seven, she was named World Chess Champion in her age category.

With a deep musical sensitivity beyond her years, Zhu’s extraordinary achievements and promising career have earned her acclaim from critics and musicians alike, positioning her as a rising star in the world of classical music. Studying at the Juilliard School since age eight with Emanuel Ax and Veda Kaplinsky, she is also a versatile composer and an accomplished improviser.

Her program for this afternoon will be:

• Nocturne, Op. 27, No. 1
• Selected études
• Mazurkas, Op. 33, Nos. 1-4
• Scherzo, No. 4 in E major, Op. 54
• ——–Intermission——-
• Ballade No. 3 in A♭ major, Op. 47
• Polonaise-Fantasy, Op. 61
• Ballade No. 4 in F minor, Op. 52
